5 Quick Tips for Moving With Valuable Items

Category Moving

Moving can be a very stressful process and many people often start packing at the very last minute.

This means that the packing & moving process becomes extremely unorganized and this is a recipe for disaster if you have valuable items that you need to take with you to your new home.

Packing to move to a new house or apartment should not be the tense experience that it is! After all, with a little organization and planning, it can be a very smooth process!

Here are a few tips that you can use to ensure that your valuables are safe when packing for a big move:

No.1 - Make a list of items to buy for packing

Once you have asked your friends for their moving supplies, you need to make a list of the things you need in order to have a stress-free move.

Write down how many sheets of bubble wrap and tissue paper you will need in order to ensure that your crockery gets to the other side without chips or scratches.

And how much tape will you use and how many of the dispensers will you need?

You should definitely not spend your entire salary on these items, but you can sell them afterward if you don't need them again!

No.2 - Label everything

Right now, it might feel like it would be easier to just pack everything in boxes and assume you will find your way through them as you unpack in your new home.

Moving is not complete until you label everything: a  simple example here is that you might need a specific item urgently (i.e. you might have to work tomorrow and need your lunchbox, you might be going out tonight and need the hairdryer).

Labeling is essential when you want to find these things! We may think that we can sleep on a mattress and unpack later, and mostly that is true, but there are certain things you might need the first week before you have fully unpacked.

No.3 - Take time with the breakable items

Many packing supplies serve only one purpose and that is to protect your breakable items.

For durable, chippable items, it might be enough to simply wrap a dishtowel around them, but for really valuable items you should consider investing in something more secure, like bubble wrap.

Just imagine how devastated you would be if you found out that your grandmother's vase broke on the way to the new home!

Plus, you can have an insane bubble-popping house warming party with your friends afterward.

No.4 - Gather supplies from friends who moved

Most people use lots of boxes, markers, and colored stickers when they move, but many of them don't need it after they have unpacked.

Ask some of your friends who just moved if you could borrow some of their supplies in advance before you need to move.

This way you can start packing your items early and avoid the rush.

You will also be saving on buying new supplies that you probably won't need after you have settled in.

No.5 - Use apps that make your transition easier

Technology is amazing and we use it every day, so why not use it during your move as well?

There are plenty of phone apps that can make the process much smoother.

For instance, Sortly is a great app that can sort and categorize each item, so that it is easy to find and understand the boxes that you have packed. The time you save doing that can be saved on doing that can be spent on making sure that your fine china is wrapped up safely and securely.

These tips might be a bit time-consuming, but it's to be better safe than sorry!
