Ways to Make Your Rooftop Go from Drab to Fab

Rooftop spaces are becoming more and more popular amongst homeowners. It is especially popular amongst people living in cities where it isn't easy to create gardens.

The rooftop makes for a convenient space where you can enjoy a tiny piece of tranquillity in an otherwise busy area.

You can easily turn your rooftop from functional to funky with enough time and effort.

What could be better than drinking a glass of wine in a pretty space under a sky full of stars? Here are five ways you can turn your rooftop into something magical:

#1 - Set the mood

It might seem like just another roof during the day, but when the sun sets your roof can really light up the building.

Mood lights are a great way to create a calming and romantic mood under the open skies. Fairy lights are always a good idea, especially if they are battery-operated. You won't have to worry about finding an outlet for them to shine.

If you want a more elegant look, then a few lanterns and candle displays should do the trick. By placing them strategically on the rooftop, you can create a wonderland in no time.

#2 - Consider a rooftop pergola

Pergolas are making a comeback, especially when it comes to rooftop décor. They lend a dramatic atmosphere to the environment and they look great when paired with the right accent pieces.

Imagine those gorgeous summer days underneath a foliage-covered pergola or one covered in a flowing white sheet.

Not only will it improve the look of the rooftop but it provides excellent protection against the sun.

You can also use pergolas to segment your rooftop into smaller spaces, like a dining area and a lounging area.

#3 - Decorate your rooftop with plants

When considering rooftop décor, plants and flowers are an absolute must. You can't spend time outdoors and not have plants around you.

Sun-loving flowers and plants work best because you don't have to worry about them getting too much.

If you want a more urban look, you can consider climbing plants on a trellis. These are also great for creating a natural aesthetic.

Plants also thrive in large containers so grab your paintbrushes and give them a brighter coat of paint. Watch the space turn into a stunning new outdoor area in no time.

#4 - Add creative seating

A rooftop area is all about relaxing and having fun.

You don't have to be too rigid with your seating or worry about it matching everything else. Be as creative as you can possibly be.

If you have enough space, you can install a hammock or a swing bed. These are perfect for lazy Sunday reading or cocktail drinking.

You can combine old storage boxes with cushy, comfy pillows and make your own seating.

The great thing about this is that you can take the pillows inside when it rains and leave the storage boxes out. It requires minimal effort and your seats are still protected during bad weather.

#5 - Change it up every season

Your rooftop doesn't have to scream summer all year round. You can adjust it as the seasons change.

As soon as it gets a bit colder, you can add a fire pit and heaters.

This way you get to enjoy the area even if the warmer days are long gone. A few warm throws here and there will also create a cosy setting.

Your rooftop can easily be changed into something amazing. It is the perfect way to add an entertainment area to your home, especially if you live in the city.
